Toyota’s new hydrogen car costs from 63,900 euros

With the Mirai, Toyota launched the world’s first mass-produced electric car in 2014, in which hydrogen is converted into electricity for an electric drive in a fuel cell for greater range. The second generation of the sedan will roll off the assembly line starting in November, the Japanese announced. When delivery begins it is still open.

Like its predecessor, Toyota is promoting the new Mirai as a car with a travel-friendly range, short refueling stops, high winter suitability and zero emissions. Production capacity was increased to 30,000 units per year for the new edition, over 10,000 units of the first Mirai were manufactured and sold.

According to Toyota, the Mirai 2021 is a completely revamped model with significant advances in technology, efficiency, performance and design. An optimized fuel cell system and three hydrogen tanks with a larger overall volume have allowed up to 30 percent more kilometers with a refueling than the previous model (550 km / NEDC standard) – there is still no specific specification for autonomy. Furthermore, there is now enough space for five instead of four people, which makes the new Mirai more suitable for everyday use.

Compared to the first generation, mainly leased, the second Mirai is not only equipped with more modern technology, but also 8.5 centimeters longer, wider and flatter. The price is almost 15,000 euros less, in this country it starts with 19% VAT from 63,900 euros. This means that the hydrogen car can now also benefit from the German “environmental bonus”, which provides a purchase premium of € 7500 – € 5000 comes from the state, the manufacturer grants € 2500 net discount.

Furniture

The basic equipment of the new Mirai includes 19-inch alloy wheels, a JBL audio system with 14 speakers, a multimedia system with navigation and 12.3-inch display, Apple CarPlay and Android car support, smart key system, LED headlights , heated front seats and electrically adjustable front seats. Toyota Safety Sense Active Safety and Driver Assistance System ensures safety.

The “Executive” trim line (from € 66,900) also includes shiny silver 19-inch alloy wheels, adaptive bi-LED headlights, front multi-LED indicators, “privacy glass” for the rear windows, 360 camera system degrees, adjustable ambient lighting with eight different colors, heated steering wheel, leatherette seat covers, electrically adjustable steering column and charging station for wireless smartphone charging. Also on board is a reversing assistant, a blind spot assistant and a parking assistant with four sensors.

In the “Advanced” flagship equipment (73,900 euros), the new Mirai has extended parking assistant, 20-inch black alloy wheels, panoramic roof, head-up display, digital internal rearview mirror with camera, rear seat heating, ventilation front and rear seats, three -zone automatic air conditioning and a memory function for the driver’s seat and electrically adjustable steering column. In addition, the Mirai is equipped with black semi-aniline leather seats, available on request at no extra cost in light color with a matching dashboard and decorative copper applications.

The second generation of the Mirai is based on Toyota’s new modular platform for rear-wheel drive vehicles, designed for various types of traction. According to the manufacturer, it gives the sedan greater body rigidity and a lower center of gravity, which increases agility and responsiveness. The new Mirai also responds more directly and uniformly to movements of the accelerator pedal, which ensures greater comfort and driving pleasure.
