The fourth generation of Yaris introduces the new modular GA-B platform, a structure that it shares with the future Yaris Cross, and is largely responsible for the evolutionary leap that Toyota has applied in its best seller, giving it greater dynamism thanks not only to the center of gravity. low and superior torsional stiffness. The Yaris is wider, about 50 millimeters, and the wheelbase is now longer, to the advantage of habitability.

The hybrid engine has also been subject to improvements, evolving the complete hybrid system up to the fourth generation, which here combines a 91 horsepower 1.5 three-cylinder petrol engine and an 80 horsepower electric one. Combined power is now 116 horsepower, with Toyota promising purely electric driving in an urban environment for up to 80 percent of the routes. The maximum speed in electric mode is 130 km / h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h takes place in 9.7 seconds. CO2 emissions are now 19% lower.

The range is divided into six equipment levels and the strong commitment to safety is evident in the inclusion of the Toyota Safety Sense package right from the lowest level, Comfort. A novelty is also the adoption of a central airbag, placed between driver and passenger, which contributes to greater protection in the event of a side impact. Still as regards the fittings, the new Yaris can have, for example, a 10-inch head up display, wireless charger for smartphones, JBL sound system and heated steering wheel.

In addition to the Hybrid version, with a base price of € 20,990, the range also includes two petrol engines, 1.0 72hp and 1.5 125hp, with base prices of 16,990 and 23,190 respectively. Toyota predicts that around 70% of the Yaris sold in Portugal will be hybrid and that the best-selling version will be the Comfort Plus with a price of 22,496 euros. The first driving impressions of this new Yaris are promised for the next few weeks, soon to be joined by the sporty GR version and also the Yaris Cross.
