High above the surface of Mars, at an altitude of nearly 150 kilometers, they discovered water. It shouldn’t be in this place.
Two years ago, a young planetary scientist, Shane Stone, noticed an unusual phenomenon of water. At the same time, the entire Mars was covered in a huge sandstorm.
As the dust swirled to lower positions, water molecules rolled to the edge of space.
“It was like a slap in the face,” lead author of the new research told Science Stone magazine at the University of Arizona. It describes how dust storms could deprive the once wet planet Mars of its water.
Storms can destroy probes
Storms on Mars are relatively common, but usually local. Once every few years, however, dust covers the entire planet. If you were looking at Mars right now, you would only see a large swirling brown cloud.
