On October 26, an unknown bitcoin user set a record by transferring the highest value amount in the history of the cryptocurrency, which surpassed $ 1 billion.
This is a total of 88,857 bitcoin which, at the prices of 28 October, are valid approximately $ 1,227 million. This amount was transferred to two different accounts, splitting almost in half: 43,185,9606 units were sent to one and 45,671.2843 to another, according to the Bitcoin.com website.
Generally, large amounts of cryptocurrency are split into parts in order to diversify their storage so that losses are lower if there is a problem with one of the accounts. This strategyAccording to the Xataka portal, it perfectly reflects the essence of the famous saying that advises not to “put all your eggs in one basket”.
Perhaps the most interesting detail was the fact that during the transfer of such a high value bitcoin number, the holder paid a ridiculous commission which barely reached $ 3.85.
Although the estimated dollar value of this transfer was an all-time record, this is not the largest number of bitcoins that were transferred in a single day in a single transaction. In November 2011 someone sent 500,000 bitcoins, which were valued at nearly $ 1.3 million at the time, but would exceed $ 6.905 million at current prices.
In fact, in the history of cryptocurrencies there have been only three transactionsApart from that, where the sum sent to an account exceeded $ 1 billion:
- 94,504 bitcoins, sent in September 2019;
- 106,857 bitcoins, sent in February 2020;
- 161,500 bitcoins, sent in April 2020.
