A giant meteor was spotted in the New Jersey night sky Sunday night, according to video from the event and a nonprofit group following the phenomena.

The meteor screamed in the sky above Lakewood at around 7.15pm, according to footage posted by Lakewood Scoop.

The meteor was likely part of a “fireball event” this weekend, in which meteors rained in the sky over Connecticut, New York and New Jersey, according to the nonprofit American Meteor Society.

The group, which tracks meteor showers, has received around 280 notifications about the event, they wrote on their website.

Thousands of fireball events, like the one captured at Lakewood, occur in Earth’s atmosphere every day, but most are not seen by humans because they occur over the oceans or during the day when they are not visible, according to the group.
