A two-million-year-old skull discovered in a South African cave system has been identified as the earliest known example of a distant cousin of early humans.
The discovery of the skull of a small-brained human-like creature called Paranthropus robustus, a “cousin kind” of Standing man thought to be the direct ancestor of modern humans, should further aid our understanding of evolutionary processes, according to the researchers who made the discovery.
