Interest in cryptocurrencies in Russia remained relatively stable throughout 2018, despite the significant fall in their prices. For example, the trade denominated in rubles on Localbitcoin showed a generally positive trend since last spring. In the last year, the Russians have also seen an increasing number of other options for the purchase of digital coins.

In 2018, the main currencies such as BTCs saw a decline of 80% in their valuation compared to the historical highs achieved in the last weeks of 2017. However, according to Olga Prokhorova of investment advice from the International Financial Center, falling prices they have not significantly decreased interest in cryptocurrencies, and Russia is no exception.

In an interview with the Federal Press news agency, Prokhorova cited data from a study recently published by the University of Cambridge that revealed that the number of users with verified identity in the & # 39; ecosystem has increased to over 35 million. The study also noted the increase in the volume of transactions on P2P exchanges such as Localbitcoin in countries that experienced monetary crises. Russia, which has been the victim of financial turmoil in the past, has been included in this group of nations led by Venezuela, currently in economic difficulties.

With the exception of a couple of weeks during the last autumn, the weekly volumes of Localbitcoins in Russian rubles followed an upward trend from the spring of 2018, according to Coin Dance – from the low of about 740 million rubles in half March (~ $ 10.6 million) to over 1.2 billion rubles (nearly $ 18 million) in the last week of December.

Popular ways to buy digital coins in Russia

Peer-to-peer exchanges are not the only option for Russians looking to acquire cryptocurrencies. There are many other platforms and Russian online publication 1rre recently summarized the tried and tested alternatives, starting with popular exchanges in the country such as Exmo, Bitfinex and Bitstamp. Another important global trading platform, Huobi, recently opened an office in Russia and launched a website in Russian. Livecoin, Yobit, Hitbtc, C-cex and Spectrocoin can also be added to the list, according to previous publications. Cryptographic exchanges are probably the safest way to buy digital coins, but users must pass KYC procedures and pay taxes.

Another option is to use an online payment processor such as Webmoney, which has recently offered its customers the opportunity to purchase and exchange cryptocurrencies with legal tender. Verified subscribers can also collect directly on their bank cards. The main disadvantage in this case is the exchange rate, notes the press release.

A number of online exchangers operating in the country have become a popular choice for many Russian cryptocurrency traders. The use of their services, however, is still risky and requires some research in advance. A platform called Best Change helps the Russians do it. The website provides information on the different options to exchange cryptocurrencies with legal currency and claims that all the exchangers listed are verified.

Cryptocurrency crates have been installed in over 20 Russian cities, from the capital Moscow, with at least eight ATMs, to Yakutsk in Siberia. While most of them only offer purchases of popular digital coins like BCH, BTC, ETH and LTC, some of these devices also support sales. A new Russian BATM tracker, Cryptocoinmap.ru, was launched recently, as reported by news.Bitcoin.com in December. Information on rates and transaction limits are available at Coinatmradar.com.

The Russians can also buy and sell cryptocurrencies using Telegram robots. One of these, @btc_change_bot, provides support for the Russian language. Link buyers and sellers of e-money for a commission of 1% on the amount exchanged.
