What analysts say
While equity markets continued to falter, a digital currency advocate and a smart contract user said that the main currencies would provide investors with a bet against what is being set up as a turbulent 2019 for the financial markets.
"There is a growing list of investments to be taken into account for 2019. These include strong commercial tensions, rising interest rates, political uncertainties, including Brexit, and compliant financial markets," said Ian McLeod of Thomas Crown Art, a blockchain-based company that promotes intelligent contracts for art, in a morning note.
"In this context, we can expect cryptocurrencies to be increasingly seen as" safe havens "for investors in 2019 and beyond".
