Metro do Porto has been awarded the construction of the new Pink Line, consisting of four stations and approximately three kilometers, in an investment of 189 million euros which will materialize after validation by the Court of Auditors.
“The construction of the Pink Line of the Metro do Porto is nearing the beginning, now that the contract for the contract with the Ferrovial / ACA consortium has been signed,” reads a statement.
The work, which will start after validation by the Court of Auditors, will continue until the end of 2023, he said.
The new Pink Line of the Metro do Porto consists of four stations and about three kilometers of road, which connects S. Bento / Praça da Liberdade to Casa da Música, which serves the Hospital de Santo António, the Pavilhão Rosa Mota, the Centro Maternal- For children, Praça de Galiza and the faculties of the Campo Alegre center, he stressed.
This line is the initial part of an internal circular that will make the connection with the other axes of the underground network, the company underlined.
For the president of Metro do Porto, Tiago Braga, the signing of the contract, albeit formal and mandatory, is another step that has great significance for the expansion of the network.
“We will take thousands of cars off the streets, we will make yet another strong contribution to improving air quality, we will help make the city more sustainable,” he said.
In the note, metro explained that the signing of the contract was pending the revocation of the suspensive effects of a lawsuit brought by one of the participants in the international public tender for this work, against which Metro do Porto filed an appeal.
Since the Porto Administrative and Tax Court upheld the appeal, there was no longer any impediment to the process, formalizing the award, he said.
Together with the extension of the Yellow Line, the Pink Line of the Metro do Porto is the largest public investment currently underway in Portugal.
