The world’s oldest pair of identical twins was discovered in a grave in Europe, a new study has discovered.
The tomb, near Krems on the Danube in Austria, was discovered in 2005.
One is believed to have died shortly after giving birth, while the other lived for six to seven weeks.
The third child is believed to be their cousin.
They were buried with goods including ivory pearls and mollusc shells. Red ocher was also found in the tomb.
Ron Pinhasi of the University of Vienna said it was “the first genetically verified test and the first twin birth test”.
