Mopar in early November announced it would retail its 807-horsepower “Redeye” V8 as a cash engine, and there are rumors that Ford could follow suit by making its Shelby GT500’s 760-horsepower available for transplant.
When the first Hellcat cash engine hit the market (later), the world went crazy, swapping the legendary 707bhp mill into anything from old muscle cars to tiny sports cars.
It’s all set to happen again, as Mopar launches the Hellcat Redeye crate on the aftermarket.
The Redeye version of the Hellcat engine turns the wick up to 11, producing 807 horsepower and 717 Nm of torque from the supercharged 6.2-liter. For US $ 21,807, the engine comes with throttle body, injectors, coil packs, a water pump, and a transmission flex plate.
The “Hellcrate Redeye” will sit among the other heroes of the world of Mopar case engines, including the standard Hellcat and the 426 cubic inch “Hellephant” 1000 horsepower V8.
However, Mopar won’t be the only brand to unleash its modern muscle car motivation on the aftermarket; Ford will reportedly respond with a 5.2-liter supercharged engine dubbed the “Predator”, derived from the powertrain usually found under the hood of the Shelby GT500. The automaker hasn’t exactly confirmed its plans or any package details, so no pricing details are available yet.
Ford’s mill produces 760 horsepower and 625 lb-ft of torque in stock form, but we’re sure there will be more ponies to be had once the kids drop it into their rest-mod. The GT500 mill will join a huge 9.3-liter V8 crate engine already available from the Blue Oval, which produces 655 horsepower and 710 Nm of torque without the aid of a blowfish.
