25 November 2020 – In the coming year 2021, iPads with mini LED screens are expected to enter the market. However, as early as the end of 2021, these could be replaced by models with OLED screens.
Apple’s iPads have so far been equipped with traditional, albeit technically advanced, LCD screens. Models with mini LED technology will follow next year, which presumably saves energy and promises high brightness with HDR support. According to the specialized publication “The Elec” from South Korea, however, the mini-LED is only a temporary solution. According to the report, Apple plans to equip its iPads with OLED screens from the end of 2021. “The Elec” wants to know that Apple has already entered into agreements with suppliers Samsung and LG for the supply of OLED screens for iPad.
So far, OLED displays have only been used in iPhones – relatively small screens aren’t as expensive as larger ones. After all, the iPhone 12 Pro Max has an OLED display with a 6.7-inch diagonal, significantly more than the 2019 Max with 6.4-inch. It seems Apple is thinking bigger and bigger when it comes to OLED size. (ubi)
