Metro do Porto has been awarded the construction of the new Pink Line, an investment of 189 million euros that connects four stations for an extension of three kilometers and is now awaiting validation by the Court of Auditors.
“The construction of the Pink Line of the Metro do Porto is nearing the beginning, now that the contract for the contract with the Ferrovial / ACA consortium has been signed,” the company said in a statement released Thursday.
The works, which should last until the end of 2023, will connect S. Bento / Praça da Liberdade to the Casa da Música, serving the Hospital de Santo António, the Pavilhão Rosa Mota, the Maternal-Infant Center, Plaza de Galicia and the colleges center of Campo Alegre.
This line is the initial part of an internal circular that will connect with the other axes of the metro network, he said.
“We will take thousands of cars off the streets, we will make another strong contribution to improving air quality, we will help make the city more sustainable”, says Tiago Braga, president of Metro do Porto, considering that the signing of the contract is another step with “great significance” for network expansion.
The signing of the contract for the construction of this line, presented as an initial part of an internal circular that will connect with the other axes of the network, was pending the revocation of the suspensive effects of a lawsuit brought by one of the participants in the International Public Tender. for the work. But Metro do Porto filed an appeal and the Porto Administrative and Tax Court upheld the appeal.
Under discussion, with the construction of the Pink Line and the extension of the Yellow Line (connection with Gaia), a budget of 288 million euros is at stake, the largest public investment underway in Portugal.
