The “light of the zodiac” adorns the sky of the Arab world tonight

The weeks close to the vernal equinox are ideal times to see zodiacal light in the sky, and currently the moon has left the night sky, so the next few weeks will be a good time to see it across the entire Northern Hemisphere.

According to the Astronomical Society of Jeddah, after sunset today, Tuesday 10 March, about an hour, it is monitored with the naked eye without the need to use special monitoring equipment from desert areas, because the light pollution inside the city blurs the natural lights in the dome of the sky.

Since the light of the zodiac is dim, the light of the moon is easy to obscure, so nights near the moon fall in the middle are ideal for observing it.

In general, the period from late February to April, which includes the weeks close to the vernal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere, is one of the best times of the year to see the light of the zodiac about 80-120 minutes after sunset, as the zodiac is approximately perpendicular to the horizon.

The light of the zodiac can be found in the form of a bright triangle extending from the western horizon towards the constellation of Taurus, and this constellation can be easily distinguished by two of its hallmarks, the star Aldebaran and the Pleiades cluster, which will appear above the western horizon once the night begins.

The cause of zodiacal light is the reflection of sunlight from dust particles between the planets and orbiting the sun in the inner part of our solar system.

Worth noting for residents of the southern hemisphere “south of the equator”, the month of March marks the time to observe the zodiacal light in the morning sky on the eastern horizon before the light of dawn.
