The iOS update is expected to fix display issues on iPhone 12

20. November 2020 – Some iPhone 12 owners experience color casts, flickering, and other issues on their device’s display. Apple wants to fix this with an iPhone 12-specific iOS update.

The market launch of the iPhone 12 appears to be successful in terms of quantity, but not all buyers are consistently enthusiastic about their device. There are problems with the touchscreen on the iPhone 12 Mini (reported by “Swiss IT Magazine”). All iPhone 12 models are apparently affected by other display interruptions – some users report green or yellow tones, screen flickering, or gray glow in certain areas of the display. The phenomena mostly occur in the dark when the iPhone automatically dims the screen, as some users complain in Apple’s support forum.

A special build of iOS 14.2, 18B111, for iPhone 12 should now eliminate these errors. It has been available since November 19 and is apparently only offered to install to iPhone 12 owners who are still working with iOS 14.1. Oddly, the update is not available on iPhones with iOS 14.2, as reported by “Heise.de”. Apple already knows the method to fix display errors using an iOS update – even the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro initially had greenish discolorations that were eliminated with an operating system update.
