Despite its well-known contempt for cryptocurrencies, India's enthusiasm for blockchain technology is gaining more and more new buyers, demonstrated by the announcement of a global blockchain conference to be held soon in the Indian state of West Bengal. The event will take place in the capital of the Kolkata state on the 18th and 19th of this month. This interesting summit will be hosted by the Department of Information Technology and Electronics of the State Government.
The panel of speakers addressed to the guests is the co-founder of the Brazilian Blockchain Academy Rosine Kadamani, the Belgian blockchain and cryptography specialist Bart Preneel and the Indian himself Sreeram Anathasayanam, who works with blockchain technology at the Indian office consulting services MNC PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers).
The official website of the event tells us that the event was organized with the goal of developing a blockchain ecosystem that will benefit various industries in West Bengal. It is read:
"The goal of the event is to build a holistic ecosystem on Blockchain technology in West Bengal through knowledge sharing, workshops, awareness generation and providing a unique platform for all stakeholders – Industry, Academy, Startup, Corporates, Governments and Investors to understand, collaborate and explore the potential of Blockchain technology. The event will host internationally renowned speakers on blockchain and 2000 enthusiastic participants from industries, universities, companies, startups, governments and investors. "
The event is expected to host about 2000 guests from a wide range of sectors, as diverse as investment and the academic world. This diversity in the guest list reflects the different potentials of blockchain technology, ranging from business benefits to charity use.
This initiative is particularly significant in the context of West Bengal as it is a state that has often been criticized for not being in favor of new industries or innovative technologies. Especially under the current state government, questions have often been raised about the sincerity of authorities to attract investors and industrialists. The decision to organize this event flies in the face of such criticism and indicates a renewed energy in the government-oriented policies of the government. Other Indian states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra have organized similar events before and now it is West Bengal's turn to come forward.
