Exchange of cryptocurrencies to which HitBTC has yet to respond accusations deliberately froze account withdrawals on January 1, days before the Trace Mayer Proof of Keys business event.
In a series of tweets, Mayer joined names like Crypto, supporting John McAfee in voicing doubts and suspicions about HitBTC after users reported they could not withdraw their funds.
On both chirping and Reddit, users recognized that the practice of freezing accounts had often occurred in the past and that the times two days before Proof of Keys were not necessarily intentional.
Proof of Keys, which Mayer announced last month, invites cryptocurrency investors to remove their coins from third-party platforms to take control of their private keys.
This, he argues, will educate them on keeping reserves by themselves and not relying on intermediaries, contributing to the spirit of Bitcoin (BTC) and fostering adoption.
"Has (HitBTC) failed (Keys Test)?" He asked on Twitter, writing:
"I do not have an account." He asked a friend to start a withdrawal .. ATTENTION! … Result: "Withdrawals are temporarily disabled on your account." "
At Wednesday's press, HitBTC had not publicly addressed Mayer's application, while others added the social media exchange dispute.
McAfee, which announced a concerted effort in September to counter what it called corruption at HitBTC, he did not appear surprised by the events.
"I warned everyone [sic] more than a dozen times. Do not register. Do not use it ", he tweeted, adding:
"Withdtaw [sic] your funds I was wiped out for calling HitBT [sic] like a corrupt bug [sic]. Difficult * t. You had six months notice to withdraw your funds. Do not ask me to help you now. "
Bitfi, the cryptocurrency wallet manufacturer approved by McAfee, which had previously been confronted with its own advertising battle, united with fury, claiming that HitBTC was stealing money from its users.
Reddit user pedxs described January 1 as his withdrawals were blocked after completing the Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements. The user claimed that after HitBTC wrote in an email that "No further automated restrictions will be applied", the exchange would block the withdrawals from the BTC and block its account.
Another Reddit user posted his blocked funds after he sent KYC requirements, leading to an alleged HitBTC user support user, paola_balzano, to comment on asking for a support ticket number to provide follow-up. The original poster has declined, emphasizing that he wanted to go through official support channels.
HitBTC was contacted for comment via his media email, but did not respond at the time of printing.
