The Minister of International Cooperation explained that young people represent about 60% of the population of the Arab world, which is considered a great opportunity to hone and develop the working skills of these young people in a way that meets the needs of the market in the future, in the framework of cooperation between stakeholders.
Al-Mashat indicated that the new cities that the state is working to establish, which are seen as a diverse and advanced work environment for the private sector, can significantly contribute to the development of the skills and abilities of young employees. New projects in various sectors, including renewable energy, represent a good opportunity to discover new skills for workers. This allows them to meet the needs of the labor market.
He stressed the importance of the document launched by the Joint Regional Working Group of the World Economic Forum on the new economic and social order that brings together stakeholders, and aims to achieve a global and sustainable economic recovery and a flexible recovery through cooperation between the government and the private sectors, civil society and international partners. Global economic policies and a new social contract, stimulating economic integration, reshaping education systems, leveraging the fourth industrial revolution, promoting environmental sustainability, mitigating global health risks and adhering to good and resilient governance.
She said the Ministry of International Cooperation, in partnership with the World Economic Forum and the National Council for Women, has launched the first stimulus of its kind to bridge the gender gap in Africa and the Middle East region, which is considered a platform that includes relevant parts of government and the private sector, civil society and academia to develop policies that empower women and sharpen their skills. This makes it an essential part of the job market.
It is worth noting that the International Labor Organization published a report earlier in which it estimates that 195 million employees have lost their jobs as a result of the pandemic, including around 5 million in Arab countries, and four sectors were the most affected by the pandemic: food, hotel, wholesale and retail trade and the service sector. Business, management and manufacturing: these four sectors represent approximately 37.5% of the global labor market.
