Conversations are underway between the government and the CTT administration on the new universal service concession contract, admits the Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works in Parliament. “There are things that separate us, such as the quality indicators imposed by Anacom”, admitted the minister in the debate on the State Budget for 2021, in particular regarding the negotiations. The current concession contract expires on 31 December and the tender has not yet been launched
Pedro Nuno Santos also clarified that there are issues that the CTT administration and the government have in common, without specifying which ones.
CTT’s management found it impossible to meet the 24 quality indicators imposed by Anacom in the provision of postal services. The number of quality indicators increased in 2018, from 11 to 24, as a result of the deterioration in quality.
Pedro Nuno Santos also stressed that no option against the CTT is excluded, without specifying what he meant. The possibility of nationalizing the post office was once admitted.
“The Portuguese state will never give in to any kind of blackmail”, underlined the minister. And he also clarified that “the extension of the current concession contract will not lead to a violation of the obligations” that currently exist.
