The Ethereum network is approaching the vital update of Constantinopole. The community is nervous before the event, although the developers are "cautiously optimistic".
According to statistical data of Etherenodes.org, the resource that tracks the number of nodes that have updated their software, only 16% of miners have adopted Constantinople by Saturday 12 January. However, Peter Pratscher, CEO of Ethermine's largest ether mines, believes the data are not correct.
"Miners are prepared, only miners can divide the chain, we expect most of the outdated nodes to be updated when the fork-block arrives," said Afri Schoedon, Parity's customer release manager Ethereum.
While Constantinople is considered a planned update not challenged by community members, there is always the risk that something may go wrong. For the network to work normally, all nodes must install the new software version. If a relatively large number of miners fail to do so when the system is upgraded, the network will be split into two separate chais. In other words, we will have a fork. This is what happened when the developers of Etehreum decided to implement a questionable update after the collapse of the DAO in summer 2016.
Constantinople is part of a large-scale Ethereum upgrade known as Metropolis which will allow the network to be brought into the Proof of Stake algorithm and implement five Ethereim Improvement Proposals (EIP). Many of these are general improvements approved by the majority of the developer community.
Ethereum has been a big loser lately. The currency has lost more than 26% of its value in the last seven days and touched $ 114.60, which is the lowest level since 27 December. The currency is vulnerable to losses until the risk event is out of control, warning for $ 100.00 may appear before the Ethics / USD sooner or later.
