MOSCOW, October 17 / TASS /. Operation of the Electron-BM oxygen supply system, which broke down on Wednesday, has been restored, Russian space agency Roscosmos told TASS on Saturday.

“The crew of the International Space Station (ISS) under the leadership of specialists from the mission’s main operations control team successfully performed restoration work to resume operation of the Electron-BM system,” the state-owned company said.

Roscosmos added that the system has been reactivated and is running at full capacity.

The Elektron-VM oxygen supply system developed by the Russian Research and Design Institute for Chemical Machine Construction (NIIChimMash) has been in operation aboard the space station since its creation. The system can generate 25 to 160 liters of oxygen per hour and in addition 50 to 320 liters of hydrogen per hour. In April 2010, the ISS crew took several days to repair the failed system.

The space station has oxygen supplies available while the US Tranquility module has its own oxygen generation equipment.
