This happened during a speech at the "Conference of Mashreq countries for the emancipation of women economically" held on Saturday at the Serail State (Center of the Council of Ministers), with the support of the World Bank, the Canadian government and of the Swiss Development Directorate, in the presence of the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Representatives of Jordanian, Iraqi and Canadian Governments and International Institutions dealing with women's affairs.

Thus, Hariri said that Arab women are reaching a new goal every day, innovation and success that contributes to the progress of Arab society, despite the great changes that are taking place in the region and the aspirations for reconstruction and progress in all Arab countries. affected by crises and subsequent conflicts.

He said that the World Bank group has developed a recent study that shows that women in Mashreq make up half of the companies and that they are the majority in the region. But their participation in the labor market remains negligible.

He stressed that the absence of women from the labor market is a lack of growth and renewal of human resources and its multiplicity and represents a loss of productivity and competitiveness and stressed that, on the basis of this conviction, efforts of Lebanon in recent years have focused on the activation of political, economic and social states of women in line with the objectives of the United Nations United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development.

He stressed that Lebanon worked to expand women's participation in "first-class jobs", to the diplomatic corps and security forces, as well as to the drafting of bills to combat sexual harassment against women, amendment of the law on social security for the benefit of women and placement of quotas for women in municipal councils.

"On a personal level, more than half of the staff in my office are women, I have a lot of confidence in their potential and I look forward to the day the Lebanese woman holds the position of prime minister in Lebanon because the Lebanese women have the wisdom and the ability to innovate and implement ".

The Secretary General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, stressed that the agenda of the Arab Economic Summit includes a number of issues related to the emancipation of women and the promotion of their social and economic rights, which is part of the awareness of the different challenges faced by Arab women.

Aboul Gheit stressed that these challenges are linked to historical conditions and legacies that are rooted in some societies, mainly due to lack of awareness, widespread poverty, lack of basic health services, falling education rates and other negative factors, or the result of armed conflicts in the region in recent years. It adversely affected the status of women in Syria, Libya, Mosul and Yemen, as well as the historical suffering of Palestinian women in light of violations and arbitrary Israeli occupation practices.

He stressed that all these situations are of great concern and concern in the Arab League and at the same time represent one of the main axes of the cooperation of the General Secretariat of the League with regional and international organizations interested in economic empowerment, within the framework of the recognition of the centrality of action to mitigate the negative repercussions of these challenges to Arab women with all available means and as soon as possible.

Aboul Gheit praised the conference's work program, describing it as important, which includes a number of important axes linked to the achievement of social mobility and stimulating the role of the private sector as an essential driver for the empowerment of women and girls in society, which is particularly important and growing in light of the growing practical need to integrate women into life. And the awareness of the Arab community on the importance of women's participation in the labor market, both at the employment level and at the level of female employers.

The issue of women's economic emancipation is linked to other issues, including women's social protection, poverty eradication, access to health services and education, emphasizing that they are central to the United Nations agenda for sustainable development 2030 at international and regional level.

Therefore, it is important that the Arab League develops the issue of women's economic emancipation in its main areas of social and economic work: the efforts made by the Secretariat and the Member States as a confirmation of values ​​and principles and the objectives contained in conventions and in regional and international papers on women's rights in general and economic empowerment in particular, and consistent with the sustainable development goals included in the framework of the UN 2030, in particular the fifth objective, which emphasizes the sponsorship the economic participation of women in public life.

Aboul Gheit praised the efforts made by the Secretariat General of the League of Arab States in the framework of the implementation of the Cairo Declaration and the Strategic Plan of Action for the 2030 Arab Women's Development Plan adopted by the 28th session of the Council of the League of the Arab States held in Jordan in March 2017, which represents the strategic action plan and a synthesis of the visions, attitudes and opinions developed by Arab experts, specialists and civil society and presented by the Member States of the university.

The League of Arab States works uninterruptedly, in cooperation with various governmental mechanisms in the Member States and in the regional and international organizations concerned, to develop policies that address women's issues and issues in the Arab region, in order to ensure effective and serious coordination between these mechanisms. and programs In order to achieve global sustainable development in its broadest sense, so that one of the main objectives of the system's work is to create a full community awareness of the central role of women in society and to establish the basics of Equality of opportunity and equality between men and women, McCain women politically, economically and socially.

He stressed that the Arab League launched the Arab Network for Women's Emancipation of Women (Khadija) in collaboration with the European Union and the United Nations Regional Office of Women's Organization for the Arab states in September 2015 during the regional forum on "Strengthening the economic emancipation of women in the Arab region".

This network is the first Arab initiative to create a platform for the economic empowerment of women and serves as a specialized platform to promote the economic empowerment of women by providing a safer work environment for women and ensuring equal opportunities when achieve leadership positions and decision-making positions, capacity building, as well as a platform for the exchange of knowledge and support mechanisms to empower women in economic life in the Arab region, and to provide an opportunity for participation among all sectors they work in the field of promoting the economic emancipation of women. For his part, the Secretary of the Iraqi Council of Ministers Mehdi Alalak, the enthusiasm of the government of his country to ensure strategies and follow-up programs for the progress of Iraqi women and economic emancipation, as this it is one of the most important commitments to achieve sustainable development.

The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation in Jordan, Dr Mary Kawar, emphasized the importance of common Arab action and the role of Arab women in achieving sustainable development.

He stressed that Jordan experienced modest economic growth conditions due to the difficult regional conditions as well as the Syrian refugee problem. He stressed that Jordan worked on a number of important issues that promote women's participation through the legislative environment and the House of Representatives, which passed a law that seeks to remove all obstacles to women's participation in life. economy after discussions with employers, workers, trade unions, government, the private sector and civil society.
