He said that the World Bank group has developed a recent study that shows that women in Mashreq make up half of the companies and that they are the majority in the region. But their participation in the labor market remains negligible.
He stressed that the absence of women from the labor market is a lack of growth and renewal of human resources and its multiplicity and represents a loss of productivity and competitiveness and stressed that, on the basis of this conviction, efforts of Lebanon in recent years have focused on the activation of political, economic and social states of women in line with the objectives of the United Nations United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development.
He stressed that Lebanon worked to expand women's participation in "first-class jobs", to the diplomatic corps and security forces, as well as to the drafting of bills to combat sexual harassment against women, amendment of the law on social security for the benefit of women and placement of quotas for women in municipal councils.

The Secretary General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, stressed that the agenda of the Arab Economic Summit includes a number of issues related to the emancipation of women and the promotion of their social and economic rights, which is part of the awareness of the different challenges faced by Arab women.
Aboul Gheit stressed that these challenges are linked to historical conditions and legacies that are rooted in some societies, mainly due to lack of awareness, widespread poverty, lack of basic health services, falling education rates and other negative factors, or the result of armed conflicts in the region in recent years. It adversely affected the status of women in Syria, Libya, Mosul and Yemen, as well as the historical suffering of Palestinian women in light of violations and arbitrary Israeli occupation practices.

Aboul Gheit praised the conference's work program, describing it as important, which includes a number of important axes linked to the achievement of social mobility and stimulating the role of the private sector as an essential driver for the empowerment of women and girls in society, which is particularly important and growing in light of the growing practical need to integrate women into life. The issue of women's economic emancipation is linked to other issues, including women's social protection, poverty eradication, access to health services and education, emphasizing that they are central to the United Nations agenda for sustainable development 2030 at international and regional level.

Aboul Gheit praised the efforts made by the Secretariat General of the League of Arab States in the framework of the implementation of the Cairo Declaration and the Strategic Plan of Action for the 2030 Arab Women's Development Plan adopted by the 28th session of the Council of the League of the Arab States held in Jordan in March 2017, which represents the strategic action plan and a synthesis of the visions, attitudes and opinions developed by Arab experts, specialists and civil society and presented by the Member States of the university.
