A Brazilian supermarket chain called Oásis Supermercados has added cryptocurrency as a payment option.

The Rio de Janeiro supermarket operates two retail stores in the country and averages about $ 6.5 million in annual revenue. The chain employs 90 staff members and trained all 20 employees of the cash register to accept cryptocurrency payments.

According to Douglas Andrade, one of the chain managers, the supermarket has added support for three cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash and Litecoin.

Andrade also explained that cryptocurrency payments can be made easily and will not be a complicated process. Mentioning the process, he said: "[It is] too easy. It is the same as payment by [any] credit card. The customer says which cryptocurrency he wants to pay [with], the operator types in reais and the system already converts to that cryptography. So take the QR code and you're done. "

Oasis Supermercados has worked with CoinWISE to install the cryptographic payment gateway. The supermarket will convert the cryptography received in Fiat every three days.

Crypto adoption more and more

Although cryptocurrencies are very popular in Brazil, the country's authorities are keen on cryptic agreements due to the suspicion of tax evasion and money laundering. However, because digital assets are not banned, more and more companies are adding cryptocurrency support to attract tech savvy customers.

At the beginning of this year, the two Brazilian public transport companies of the GBS Group – Brasil Sul and Viação Garcia – have declared to accept the payment of Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash and Litecoin. Also Metrô Brasília, one of the subway systems of Rio de Janeiro, has begun to accept Bitcoin. In addition, Technisa, a construction company in Brazil, is even offering a 5% discount to all customers who pay in Bitcoin.
