Brazilian cryptographic exchange Bitcambio has reported that it has sent one of its users to $ 137 million, equivalent to about $ 35 million, after the user has attempted to withdraw 500 real, worth approximately $ 127.
According to the local Bitcoin portal, the cryptocurrency exchange has started to call the user, Kaique Nunes, on the withdrawal shortly thereafter. Speaking with the news, Nunes said:
"At the beginning of last month, I issued some normal withdrawal orders.After a while, Bitcambio called me to let me know that they had issued all this value and that they needed me to recognize a document in the newspaper. a notary's office, I thought it was a coup d'etat ".
According to the report, initially Nunes was convinced that a hacker had managed to get his personal information and was now trying to get his signature, or that he was facing a rogue employee who was trying to cheat users.
Believing it was a scam, Nunes initially ignored the cryptographic exchange, but the exchange insisted that the transaction had been canceled, but that "to complete the process it was necessary [for Nunes] to go to the notary, to recognize a signature and a document that they sent via e-mail ".
Trying to learn more about the case, Nunes told a Facebook group about the cryptocurrency discussions in Brazil about the ordeal. One of the suppliers of Bitcambio, Rodrigo Souza, is referred to as the administrator of that group and responding to Nunes acknowledged the error of the exchange.
Speaking to the user in his personal page, he commented that Bitcambio operates within the law, but that mistakes occur and are not afraid of attracting attention to them. Speaking with the local store, he revealed that a bug was behind the large mistake and that, given the size of the transaction, it was not possible to cancel it without a letter of agreement.
Now, both sides seem to work to solve the problem. In particular, Souza noted that Nunes' time would be rewarded, stating that "Kaique will be reimbursed for all the expenses he will have to pay at the notary's office".
The ordeal comes at a time when bitcoin exchanges in Brazil are struggling. While CCN covered, the Federal Department of Revenue (RFB) of the country tried to nod on exchanges. In October, Bitcoin Max managed to conquer a stalemate against a bank that was forced to reopen its account to avoid fines.
The bear market has taken its toll. This year the biggest cryptic exchange in Brazil, the Mercado Bitcoin, has fired "at least" 20 employees among the restructuring efforts. Huobi, who launched this year in the country, has fired 6 of its 10 employees.
