The works of the regional competition “The great challenge” with the slogan “Growing together”, organized by the Arab Scout Organization in collaboration with the Arab Council for Childhood and Development, the League of Arab States, were launched today, Thursday. and UN Women – the Regional Office for Arab Countries and the International Organization for Migration in Egypt, to coincide with the Arab Child’s Day celebration.
The event was attended by more than 70 leaders and leaders of scouting companies at Arab level and representatives of numerous organizations interested through the application of “Zoom”.
The “Big Challenge” competition is aimed at the age group from 12 to 18 years old at the Arab level, and seeks to develop the skills and cognitive abilities of those who belong to the Scout Movement and not affiliated with it, developing the bonds of their brothers Arabs and encouraging them to work together, accept each other and build regional dialogue networks.
The competition includes five axes: sustainable development, culture, history, heritage, environmental service, dialogue for peace, information technology and the fourth industrial revolution. The winners of this competition will participate in a scout camp to be held in the Arab Republic of Egypt during 2021.
Dr. Hassan Al-Bilawi, Secretary General of the Arab Council for Children, emphasized in his speech delivered on his behalf by Eng. Muhammad Reda Fawzi to the Council, the importance of this competition because it has many connotations and meanings as it coincides with the celebration of the Arab Childhood Day, and begins at an unprecedented time that the whole world is going through due to the Corona Pandemic, which requires more cooperation, solidarity and solidarity.
He explained that this competition is aimed at Arab children and reflects a positive model of joint Arab action, as well as the fact that it was born on the initiative of the largest youth movement in the world, which is the Scout Movement, which has millions of its members around the world. and in the Arab world, all aimed at the interest of the Arab child.
He said that this cooperation with the Arab Scout Organization represents a new step in the process of brotherhood and strategic cooperation that has spanned decades, which culminated in the conclusion of a joint cooperation protocol in December 2019, where the goals for development and the education of the Arab child.
He added that this is done in an attempt to advance its culture, values, concepts and directions to interact with the knowledge society and the era of the fourth industrial revolution, which represents the strategic direction adopted by the Arab Council for childhood and development until 2023.
For his part, Amr Hamdi, Secretary General of the Arab Scout Organization and Director of the Arab Scout Region, indicated that this competition is based on the strategic priorities of Vision 2023 (Youth participation – Educational methods – Diversity and inclusion – Social impact – Communications and relations ).
He explained that the contest was based on the scouting method to represent an educational experience based on providing adolescents and young participants with values and skills such as self-learning, learning by doing, teamwork and conducting research evaluated by specialists.
It examined the Arab Scout Organization’s achievements in terms of expanding and consolidating partnerships in order to achieve its goals towards permanent and fruitful work and cooperation for a better world.
The minister, plenipotentiary of Nasser Al-Hajri, head of the youth department of the League of Arab States, underlined in his speech the attention paid by the Arab League to the Arab child and its problems.
Moez Duraid, UN Women’s Regional Director at the Regional Office for Arab States, stressed the importance of working with this group, which represents nearly 50% of the Arab region’s population.
He praised the scouting orientation on integrating the concepts of equality and emancipation of girls and on addressing violence in this competition and in all its activities aimed at bringing about real change through this generation.
At the start of the event, attendees mourned the death of the Arab and Islamic nation, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Emir of the State of Kuwait, praying to God to accept all his noble deeds and expressing sincere condolences and sympathy. to fraternal Kuwait, the people and the government.
