The Supreme Council of Culture faithfully mourned Dr Hisham Azmy, the great poet Fouad Taman, a member of the council’s poetry committee, who passed away on Friday morning at the age of 77.
The Supreme Council of Culture said today in a statement: We mourn the great poet Fouad Taman with great sadness and sorrow, as the Arab and Egyptian cultural environment has lost one of the most important tributaries of poetry not only in Egypt but also in the whole Arab world. Their introductions were the poets Ahmad Abd al-Moati Hegazy, Suleiman al-Issa, Farouk Shusha and Muhammad Ibrahim Abu Sunna.
The poet Fouad Taman was born in the governorate of Giza on December 3, 1943, graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Alexandria in 1965, graduated from War College and then delegated to the Navy in 1967. He was chosen as a member of the Egyptian delegation at the celebration of Damascus as the capital of Arab culture, the celebration of Khartoum as the capital of Arab culture, the Festival of love in Latakia, the courses of the Abdul Aziz Saud Al-Babtain Award for Poetic Creativity and the Spring Festival of Poets held in Fez (Morocco) – Marrakech (Morocco) – Laayoune (Morocco) – Algeria – Dubai – Paris – Sarajevo – Cairo.
Some of his poems have also been translated into English, French, Italian, Spanish and Greek. It has ten collections of poems and ten collections of anthologies issued by the Supreme Council of Culture, the Egyptian General Book Authority.
