The secretary general of the Arab Theater Authority Ismail Abdullah said that the foundation, which began 12 years ago by Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, has the task of establishing a national theater festival in every Arab country, a task begun last year and that continues this year.
"The emirate of Sharjah, led by Sheikh Sultan Al Qasimi, president of the Arab Theater Authority, has not interrupted his efforts to improve Arab theater and provide reasons for its continuation and sustainability," he said to Reuters Abdullah.
"We left in March to communicate with the unions, associations and official institutions of these countries to realize this dream: we have organized so far seven festivals in Morocco, Mauritania, Sudan, Yemen, Palestine, Jordan and Lebanon".
He added: "We have become part of these national festival festivals in Iraq which will be held in October, and we have finalized the final agreements with Bahrain, which will launch its national festival on April 10th.
The Arab Theater Authority signed on Tuesday a cooperation protocol with the Association of Iraqi Artists to set up a national theater festival in which the local teams will participate and present their latest performances.
"There will be nine national festivals to be held in 2019 and we are still in touch with countries that need such festivals until the network of Arab theater festivals in the region is completed," Abdullah said.
The Arab Theater Authority was founded in Sharjah in 2007 with the aim of improving the art of theater in the Arab world and providing the reasons for its continuation and sustainability. The Festival of the Arab Theater is organized every year in a different Arab country.

The Egyptian capital will host the eleventh edition of the Festival of the Arab Theater from 10 to 16 January, with 27 performances from the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Kuwait, Iraq, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia.
Eight offers will compete for the Sheikh Sultan Al Qasimi Prize of AED 100,000 (about $ 27,000) and participation in the Sharjah Theater Days Festival in the United Arab Emirates.
The competition is selected by the Arab committee for the selection of presentations of the authority of the Arab theater, but it is expected that the model of participation in the competition will develop in the future to become a selection among the winning performances in the national festivals of each country.
"Arab national festivals are still taking their first steps," Abdullah said, "it is certainly necessary to evaluate, review and follow their results until they settle in the ideal form we aspire to."
"I think after three sessions, it will be easier to choose shows from these festivals directly, and so the Arab Theater Festival will be the culmination of these national festivals and their productions," he added.
