Until a few years ago, jailbreaking was associated with iPhones and was the process by which users of such terminals could customize the experience to their liking, add animations and install all kinds of applications on the device. Now it appears in the equation and jailbreak for Apple smart speakers, as 9to5mac informs us.

They found that the team Chackra1n and the programmer L1ngL1ng they managed to create a jailbreak for the HomePod speaker, the original one. We find that for now the support is “partial” but also that it could have ramifications for HomePod enthusiasts. What could such a jailbreak bring to Apple’s speaker?

First adding music, voice services and smart homes which Apple doesn’t officially support. The hack could also allow extension of the Bluetooth functionality to the extent that we can use HomePod as a wireless speaker for Android or other platforms. As in the case of the iPhone jailbreak and in this case the hack will only work on a certain software version of the speaker where the vulnerability that the hackers took advantage of was found.

When we have a final version remains to be seen.
