On November 30, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced in the catalog of new energy vehicles exempt from the vehicle purchase tax (the 37th lot) and included the Tesla models made in Shanghai in the catalog of new energy vehicles exempt from the vehicle purchase tax. The vehicle model is Model Y.
In addition, Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. also has a pure electric multipurpose passenger vehicle shortlisted in the “Catalog of recommended models for the promotion and application of new energy vehicles” (the 12th batch of 2020 ) issued on the same day by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Tesla Model Y will enjoy the new national energy subsidy policy.
Currently, Model Y is not yet on the market.
According to Tesla’s official website in China, there are two versions of the domestic Model Y available. The long-lasting version is priced at 488,000 yuan, with a cruising range (estimated by WLTP) of 505 kilometers and an acceleration time of 5.1 seconds per 100 kilometers; the high-performance version Performance is priced at 53.5 It has a cruising range of 480 km (estimated by WLTP) and an acceleration time of 3.7 seconds per 100 km. Both models are expected to start production in 2021 at the earliest.
According to the 2020 subsidy policy, the price of new energy cars must be below 300,000 yuan (including 300,000 yuan) before the subsidy, otherwise they will not be eligible for the subsidy. The domestic Tesla Model Y will not be eligible for the subsidy unless the pre-subsidy price is reduced.
Previously, on November 5, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the “Road Motor Vehicle Manufacturers and Products Announcement” (lot 338) of the Vehicle New Product Announcement List showing that the national Tesla Model Y completed the statement of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the battery type is ternary lithium-ion battery.
Model Y is a compact SUV. Tesla CEO Elon Musk predicted in 2017 that market demand for Model Y will far exceed Model 3. Many securities firms have published research reports stating that this will be a Another best-selling Tesla model, which will enrich Tesla’s product line and drive its overall sales growth.
Tesla said in its second quarter financial report that the Model Y production line at its Shanghai plant is under construction as planned and that the first batch is expected to be delivered in 2021. In an interview this year, Tesla’s vice president stated that the second phase of the Gigafactory is proceeding smoothly. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of this year and mass production of the Model Y models is expected in the first quarter of next year.
