An incredible image captured by a Plymouth man shows what appears to be a meteor flying across the sky.
Lee Garlick took the photo on Thursday afternoon.
The image was taken near Landrake, near Saltash, around 4pm, and the photographer said he observed the mysterious meteor-like object for five minutes before it disappeared.
Lee said, “I saw it in the sky and thought ‘what is that? That looks really weird.’
“My first thought was that it was a plane of some kind, but I didn’t see any fuel tracks that they leave behind like a normal plane.
“Then I saw something come off the tail, like a smaller version of what’s in the picture and then it just disappeared.
“Then my thoughts went to: is it a meteorite? I looked at it for about five minutes and then it just disappeared.”
He added: “There is probably only a very simple explanation.”
Lee speculated that it could have something to do with the recent meteor showers that were supposed to be seen in the skies over Plymouth earlier this week.
The annual Leonid meteor shower peaked on Monday (November 16) and Tuesday morning (November 17).

According to Space.com, more Leonid meteors will be better this year because the moon will only be 5% illuminated at night.
Leonid rain occurs when Earth’s orbit passes through debris from Comet Tempel-Tuttle’s orbit, causing pieces of the comet to fall towards the planet’s surface.
Earth’s atmosphere causes the comet’s crumbs to heat up and ignite in glowing fireballs called meteors.
It is an annual event and is named after the constellation of Leo, Leo, from which its meteors appear to originate.
