‘Com-up 2020’, a startup festival organized by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Com-up 2020 Organizing Committee, will be held for three days from 19th to 21st of this month.
The highlight of this year’s event, held online in the aftermath of the release of Corona 19, is the Comup Stars Investment Briefing (IR). Promising startups hold investment briefing sessions online to attract investment. The Mid-term Venture Ministry and the Come-Up Organizing Committee finally selected 120 companies to participate in this year’s COMEUP STARS investment briefing.
This year, 1076 startups from 89 countries applied, registering a competition rate of 9 to 1. The organizing committee and others selected companies to attract investment by conducting the first evaluation (documents) and the second evaluation (public evaluation + skills assessment) for these startups. By country, applications were accepted by India (63 companies), the three largest startup countries in the world with 24 unicorn companies. Subsequently, applications were filed in the United States, Singapore, Israel (46 companies each) and Spain (41 companies). By scope, the survey was in order of trade (12.7%), quarantine (11.7%) and open innovation (11.2%).
The investment briefing program takes place in the form of an online broadcast of the recorded video. Each company is given 10 to 15 minutes. Any individual or company that wishes to invest can log in and watch the video. An official from the organizing committee said: “It is also possible to have an online meeting in real time with the participating companies.” Investment briefing sessions are held in the Rocket League and Rookie League. The Rocket League will be attended by companies that have presented visions related to sectors in 12 fields such as artificial intelligence (AI) and digital health. The Rookie League targets early start-ups with less than 500 million won in accumulated investments within 3 years of founding. In the Rocket League, 84 startups with experience in 12 fields and 36 startups with future growth potential will each participate in the Rookie League. The 120 startups participating in the online investment briefing have already received an average of 5.83 billion won.
Among the domestic companies, Stradvision, a software development company for autonomous driving that has already attracted investments of 50.6 billion won, and Monolith, a start-up in the field of thematic part planning, which has attracted an investment of 46 billion 2 billion won, challenged the investment briefing. Among the foreign companies, the launch of Spire Global, an American mobility data analytics company that has attracted an investment of 180 billion won is expected.
The organizing committee supports the creation of free corporate promotional videos for the 120 Com-up Stars that have finally been selected. It also provides an online promotion booth.
