Environment Canada has released a special weather declaration for the Greater Toronto Area in anticipation of a “significant snowfall” expected on Sunday.

The meteorological agency said that 5 to 10 cm is expected for some places, with the exception of areas that are near Lake Ontario as the snow will be very wet.

“The trip is expected to be impacted by moderate to heavy snow,” the statement read.

“Motorists should be prepared for the driving conditions of the winter weather.”

The snowfall is the result of a Colorado Low following from Ohio to the St. Lawrence River Sunday through Monday, the statement said.

The meteorological agency said there is still some uncertainty regarding the system’s layout and “the heaviest snow axis”.

The special weather declaration extends beyond the Greater Toronto Area to other parts of Southern Ontario, where snowfall is expected to vary.
