NASA said Friday that a SpaceX spacecraft flight to the International Space Station (ISS), due to take place on Saturday, was delayed for 24 hours due to adverse weather conditions.

Sunday’s launch is expected to be SpaceX’s first regular launch after a successful test flight in May. The latter became the first manned space flight from United States territory since 2011, when the Americans completed the Space Shuttle reusable spacecraft program. The Crew Dragon demonstration mission of the SpaceX spacecraft ended the U.S. dependence on Russian missiles that flew American astronauts on TKS.
Three Americans and one Japanese are expected to be sent into orbit on Sunday. Earlier this week, the Crew Dragon capsule became the first NASA certified spacecraft in nearly 40 years after the Space Shuttle.

However, SpaceX’s success doesn’t mean the US will immediately stop leasing seats on Russian-issued spacecraft, Bridenstine noted.
“We want to be able to swap places where American astronauts can fly Russian Soyuz missiles and Russian astronauts can fly commercial manned aircraft,” the NASA administrator said. According to him, this possibility would make it possible to avoid disruptions to the flight regime if a program were suspended for a longer period of time.
Dragon has been carrying SpaceX cargo space capsules to TKS since 2012.
The next manned flight is scheduled for late March 2021. It is expected to contain two Americans and one European and one Japanese astronaut each.
