OTTAWA – The first “significant snow” of the season is destined to bury the region of the capital.
Environment Canada has issued a “snow alert” for Ottawa, Gatineau and Renfrew County, with 15-20 inches of snow expected early Sunday and Monday morning.
“The snow will start on Sunday afternoon. Snowfall of 15 to 20 centimeters will occur before the snow thins on Monday morning,” Environment Canada said, sounding the snowfall warning on Saturday evening.
“This is the result of a Colorado low that will follow from Ohio to the St. Lawrence River Sunday through Monday.”
The record for the largest snowfall on November 22 in Ottawa’s history is 14.4 centimeters, in 2007.
This would be the second snowfall of November in Ottawa. On November 2, Ottawa received 3.7cm of snow.
The snow warning is also in effect for Smiths Falls, Perth, Lanark County and Sharbot Lake.
A special weather statement has been issued for Brockville-Leeds Grenville, Cornwall-Morrisburg, Kingston and Prescott-Russell. Environment Canada says there may be 5 to 15 inches of snow in the areas on Sunday.
