FINNEY, the first blockchain phone, was released to the public by Sirin Labs based in Israel during its launch event in Barcelona on 29 November 2018.

The Sirin Labs blockchain phone is of high quality with a price of US $ 999. The phone is the first of its kind that uses blockchain technology in the middle, allowing users to use blockchain products securely. The phone is able to run decentralized applications (dapps) and to execute transactions and securely store cryptocurrencies.

Not only is FINNEY a blockchain phone, but it is also considered a premium smartphone built with the highest standards and comparable to Apple and Samsung. The phone supports all industry standard features including a 12 MP camera, 128 GB of built-in memory with expandable memory and more.

Pending the launch of FINNEY's telephone market, Sirin Labs has created its own cryptographic token, which has been available for quite some time. SRN is a utility token and used in the SIRIN LABS ecosystem.

As described in their white paper:

… by purchasing SIRIN LABS products, applications and services from the moment SRN tokens are issued and distributed to crowdsale participants (24 hours after the end of the crowdsale). In addition, special discounts will be granted to SRN Token holders who pre-order or purchase products from SIRIN LABS using their SRN tokens.

As mentioned in the white paper, FINNEY telephone purchases made with SRN tokens will receive a 10% discount. At the time of writing, SRN is trading for around $ 0.08.

The operating system (OS) that powers FINNEY is an Android fork called SirinOS, which integrates blockchain functionality and a market in addition to the traditional Google Play Store.

Through the market itself, users will have access to a world of new possibilities with new and innovative dapps which allows users to learn about new cryptographic projects and earn new coins and tokens.

The phone also has a proprietary token conversion service that allows for seamless and seamless exchange of supported tokens. Users will not have to send supported tokens to an external exchange because the phone supports this feature.

Another unique and innovative feature supported by FINNEY is a secondary screen called a "security screen". The screen is 2 inches wide, located on the back of the phone, and separated from the main screen to provide secure access to the integrated cold storage portfolio.

As for the security level of FINNEY, the phone has many features that make it the safest phone for blockchain and crypto users, such as:

  • Based on blockchain and completely tamper proof.
  • Performs a behavior-based intrusion prevention system (IPS).
  • Offers secure communications (VoIP, text, e-mail).
  • It offers three-factor authentication: biometric, block model, behavioral.
  • Supports a physical security switch for portfolio protection.

Potential future partnerships

To increase the compatibility and the adoption of the SirinOS operating system present on FINNEY, Sirin Labs wants to implement it in other consumer devices.

At the launch event, they said:

We are also looking for strategic OEMs to implement SIRIN OS ™ in additional consumer devices.

Other manufacturers of phones like HTC, Huawei, ASUS or Motorola could implement the block-block operating system in their phones. If done, it could improve the adoption and use of dapps as more people would have access to the market.

In addition, SIRIN LABS entered into business with Foxconn, the same Apple manufacturer.

In a recent interview, SIRIN's CMO, Nimrod May said:

"By choosing Foxconn for the realization of FINNEY, we are demonstrating the public's desire to have a mass-market smartphone that can operate safely and securely within blockchain and cryptocurrency."
