Shipments of Christmas trees on their way to the Netherlands

Newfoundland and Labradorians can expect a delivery of Nova Scotia Christmas trees in the next few days.

This is according to some local retailers who say that deliveries should be made starting next week.

An estimated 20,000 grown Christmas trees are brought to Newfoundland and Labrador on an annual basis, mostly from Nova Scotia.

There have been some indications that American demand for Nova Scotia trees has increased significantly, raising doubts about availability, but a number of local stores tell VOCM News that trees are on the way.

Until recently, the cutting of wild trees still represented the majority of the local market.

The province says there are about 20 farms in Newfoundland and Labrador that grow balsamic fir for the Christmas tree market.
