On Monday and Tuesday, November 16 and 17, the Earth’s night sky will be illuminated by the Leonid meteor shower, which will be visible in several countries around the world, including Ukraine.
The British edition is reminiscent of this Express.
Starfall is formed by the fact that the Earth flies past the debris of the comet Tempel-Tuttel, which, upon entering the atmosphere, burn and form flashes of light, which create the appearance of shooting stars.
Leonids reach their maximum intensity once every 33 years. The last time this happened was in 2001.
The name of the starfall comes from its radiant – the place from which the burning particles visually appear in the sky – the constellation Leo. However, meteors can be seen both in the constellation region and in other parts of celestial space.
According to astronomers, to see the falling stars, it is necessary to find the constellation of Leo in the night sky. At the same time, you need to be careful, as Leonids rush through the sky at a speed of 254.920 km / h (this is the fastest known meteor shower).
The stars are best seen after midnight and before dawn, when the sky is darkest. It is best to watch the meteor shower away from street lamps and lighted road areas. Experts note that Leonids can be seen with the naked eye – no binoculars or telescopes are needed.
Previously “FACTS” wrote that last summer many earthlings were able to witness the celestial extravagance that was formed by the meteor shower of the Perseids.
