Rivian sells the first version of its electric pickup truck

Rivian has confirmed that it has already run out of reservation slots for the first version of its electric pickup.

All without even allowing the wider public access to the configurator.

Last week, Rivian unveiled final pricing and configurations for the first version of the R1T and R1S.

The startup then opened its configurator for people who made reservations with a $ 1,000 deposit on its vehicles in the past 2 years.

Despite this limitation, they managed to sell the “Launch Edition” of their new electric vehicles within a week.

Rivian announced on Twitter:

“Thanks to our community of pre-order holders for all the support and enthusiasm. Reservations for the Launch Edition are now full. Early access to the configurator continues for pre-order holders to create our Adventure and Explore packages. L access to the public configurator starts on 23/11 at 9:00 PS. “

Here is the tweet in question:

While Rivian hasn’t revealed how many Launch Editions they will produce, it is the only version that will be produced between June 2021 and January 2022.

The Launch Edition comes with special badges and is available in an exclusive Launch Green color option.

It is equipped with Rivian’s mid-range battery pack which should allow for over 300 miles of range.

The automaker is planning a shorter haul and longer haul options later.

Again, we don’t know how many trucks they have sold with the launch editions, but given that we’re talking about 6 months of production, I think it will be in the thousands of units minimum.

I know a lot of people have been disappointed that the RT1 will be more expensive than the Tesla Cybertruck, but I think it will still be successful.

The R1S may even turn out to be not the most successful and I can see Rivian ramping up to over 100,000 units per year once they start producing both short and long haul versions.
