Research Vessel Captures Meteorite’s Last Burning Moments Live Streaming – RT World News

An Australian research vessel captured the spectacular death knell of an alleged meteorite as it crossed the Tasmanian sky, exploding in a bright green hue before disintegrating.

The Australian research vessel Investigator was perfectly positioned to capture the last fiery moment at 10:21 UTC approximately 100 kilometers (60 miles) south of the Australian Tasmanian coast on Wednesday 18 November.

In a stroke of luck, the RV Investigator has a 24/7 live streaming camera that just happened to have the perfect camera angle.

“The meteor crosses the sky directly in front of the ship and then breaks – it was great to watch the footage and we were very lucky to have captured everything on the ship’s live stream.” says John Hooper, CSIRO travel director.

The size and brightness of the meteor were incredible.

The ship is currently mapping the Huon Marine Park seabed for Parks Australia, while also conducting oceanographic studies and testing a variety of scientific instruments; but probably his greatest recent discovery was in the starry sky, not in the dark depths.

The Investigator’s live stream is available here in case anyone wants to wait for another meteorite to stream in front of the camera, though the odds are astronomically low.
