Red Deer with 149 active COVID-19 cases, Alberta records the 500th death

Sadly, Alberta has now recorded 500 deaths from COVID-19 after reporting eight more on Wednesday.

Red Deer added eight active cases of COVID-19 to 149.

There were 290 cases recovered, an increase of six, as the total number of cases attributed to the city increased from 75 to 490.

Red Deer County has one to 50 active cases, while Sylvan Lake has added seven for a total of 36.

Clearwater County (Rocky Mountain House) has 12 active cases, down by one.

Lacombe County has 30 active cases, an increase of one and the city of Lacombe has 19, an increase of two.

Ponoka County has seen the number of active cases drop from 220 to 216.

Mountain View County dropped from 2 to 10 active cases, Olds from 1 to 15, and Kneehill County from 1 to 13. Starland County and Stettler County have two each.

There are now 876 active cases in the central area with 17 hospitalizations, including four in intensive care.

Red Deer, Red Deer County, Lacombe, Lacombe County, Clearwater County (Rocky Mountain House), Ponoka County, Olds, and Kneehill County are all on the province’s “improved” state list as of Wednesday.

The list of outbreaks in the central area now includes the Revera Aspen Ridge support facility in Red Deer, as well as the Avenue Living Communities, Olymel and Pure Fitness office in Red Deer, and a private meeting in Ponoka.

The Alberta Chief Medical Officer of Health reiterated his message that the daily increase in COVID cases in the province, as well as the growing number and extent of outbreaks in acute care facilities, continue to be of concern.
