The final numbers have been published and this year Teddy Bear and Toque Toss have set a record.
The annual Brandon Wheat Kings Teddy Bear and Toque Toss took place Saturday night and an enclosure number of stuffed animals, toques and mittens were thrown on the ice. The Wheaties are reporting 2,901 objects collected
4,450 fans were available for the game against the Saskatoon Blades who were just waiting for Brandon to reach a goal so he could throw stuffed animals on the ice.
All stuffed animals and toques are donated to the Branding & Westman Christmas Cheer registry.
"A large turnout on Saturday," says Shoppers Mall marketing director, Candace McKenzie. "These donations will surely contribute to giving holiday joy to many families this Christmas".
The launch of Teddy Bear is an annual Christmas tradition that began in Kamloops in 1993. The first teddy bear in Brandon was held the following year.
Since the tradition of the wheat king celebrations began, nearly 50,000 embalmed animals have been collected and distributed by the local Christmas Cheer.
More than 2,500 were collected in 2017.
