E-Land Retail stores, which were closed or partially opened on the 22nd due to a ransomware attack, will open on the 23rd.

The E-Land Group announced that the first steps have been completed so that most of the distribution branches under E-Land Retail can operate normally except for some functions starting at 8am.

However, it is expected that it will take longer to fully function.

An E-Land official explained: “Before the ransomware incident, it will take several days to restore it to its original state,” he said. “Customer information is encrypted and managed on a separate server, so it’s safe.”

Ransomware is malware that requires money in exchange for encrypting data on a user’s computer and decrypting it.

E-Land Group blocked part of the company’s network system to minimize the damage caused by ransomware attacks to the company’s network system in the early morning of the 22nd. The Sales Management System (POS) terminals of some stores have crashed due to the system shutdown, disrupting sales of 23 of the 50 NC department stores and New Core Outlet stores. In some branches the card authorization and product code were not recognized.

After recognizing the attack, E-Land formed a task force led by Vice President Choi Jong-yang to respond. He reported this to the police and requested an investigation.

An E-Land official said: “We will strengthen security by working with related investigative departments and agencies to prevent this from happening again.”
