Lynn Carroll, head of strategy and operations for the health IT support company HSBlox in Alpharetta, Georgia, discusses his predictions on the blockchain in 2019 and how the technology will be used in value-based reimbursement programs.

The answers have been slightly modified for clarity and length.

Question: where is now the blockchain in the health sector and how will it develop in 2019?

Lynn Carroll: Blockchain is ready to move from proof-of-concept and pilot programs to production use cases. We are witnessing this in our business at the moment.

Q: What do you think will be the most significant blockchain applications in the healthcare sector over the next five years?

LC: The revenue cycle touchpoints, particularly with respect to value-based reimbursement programs, will continue to grow. The integration of the patient, including the incorporation of peripheral devices generated and generated by the patient, will continue to promote initiatives for the health and quality of the population. The merging of artificial intelligence and machine learning with smart blockchain contracts will continue to push real-time capabilities across the health ecosystem.

Q: What do the blockbenches of blockchain hospitals and healthcare systems know today?

LC: Blockchain implementations in the healthcare sector are real and are providing significant improvements in the authorized dissemination of real-time data through the assistance continuum. Operationally, distributed registries and smart contracts can automate workflows and increase real-time transparency for patients.
