WAUWATOSA, Wis. – A 15-year-old boy was arrested in connection with a shooting in a suburban Milwaukee shopping mall that injured eight people, authorities said Sunday.
Wauwatosa Police Chief Barry Weber said the shooting took place on Friday afternoon during a dispute between two groups. He said four “innocent bystanders” suffered what were believed to be non-fatal injuries. Investigators said the suspect ran out of the mall along with other people.
“We know there was some sort of altercation, and that’s when the bullets started flying,” Weber said at a press conference on Sunday.
The suspect’s name was not released and authorities did not announce the allegations on Sunday
The teenager, a Milwaukee resident, was arrested Saturday night, police said. Authorities recovered a firearm during the arrest but did not clarify the teenager’s role in the shooting. Police said they had made several other arrests. Weber said police are not releasing photos of the suspect to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
The mall was closed on Saturday, and investigators remained at the scene overnight. Shoppers were allowed to return on Sunday, police said.
