PHOTO Lunar surface on Earth: this is how astronauts trained

[ad_1]

Not far from Flagstaff is a patch of desert that NASA did not accidentally choose to train astronauts. He needed geologically rugged terrain where he could test equipment, vehicles, spacesuits, and the movement of the astronauts themselves. He found a similar place in Arizona. It really looked like a lunar surface, only the craters had to be created by the army.

In the years 1963, more than 200 exercises took place here, mainly focused on geological surveying. The 24 astronauts who were on the surface of the moon first had to walk in Arizona. And you can see how their training went in our gallery.
