Ticketmaster could allow locals to ask people to prove they have received the coronavirus vaccine to attend sporting events and concerts.
Pharmaceutical company Pfizer announced earlier this week that early data shows their vaccine is 90% effective, giving hope that venues can start hosting events again in 2021.
Ticketmaster says they have been working on a post-pandemic plan that could use fan phones to check their vaccination status or confirm they tested negative before an event.
The company says the plan will rely on its own ticket app, third-party health information companies, and vaccine distribution providers.
This plan is still under development and will depend on event operators, not requested by Ticketmaster, the company said.
After purchasing a ticket, fans would need to prove they were vaccinated or tested negative 24 to 72 hours prior to the event, according to billboard.com.
The length of time a negative test would cover could be determined by local authorities, with fans testing in the window before the event.
The test results could then be handed over to a healthcare subscription company, such as CLEAR or IBM, and if they are negative or vaccinated the fan would be verified at Ticketmaster and issued their event credentials.
If a fan had tested positive or had not verified the vaccination he would not have been allowed access to the event.
Ticketmaster offers tickets to most sporting events in the United States, as well as concert venues and properties owned by Live Nation.
The company says it will not store access to medical records and will only receive verification for attendance on a specific date.
The Food and Drug Administration has not yet authorized third-party companies to provide vaccination results.
But Ticketmaster chairman Mark Yovich says he expects it to become a crucial component for employers, air travel and the entertainment industry.
“We are already seeing many third-party health care providers preparing to handle the check, whether it’s getting a vaccine, taking a test, or other review and approval methods, which could then be linked via a digital ticket so that everyone enters the event has occurred, “Yovich told Billboard.
“Ticketmaster’s goal is to provide enough flexibility and options to allow venues and fans to have multiple routes back to events.
“We will try to tap into the best solutions based on what has been approved by officials and desired by customers.”
