The Peel region is implementing tougher restrictions related to the coronavirus after some have been relaxed by the province.
Most Ontario hotspots had less stringent sanitation measures Saturday under the terms of the tiered rating system that ranks regions in red, orange, yellow, or green.
Health restrictions in the red zones include limiting indoor dining capacity and gyms to 10 users.
The best doctor in Peel Region, the only public health unit currently classified as red, said those limits wouldn’t be enough to stop the spread of the virus.

“It is time to shorten our lives to prevent COVID-19 from getting completely out of control,” Dr. Lawrence Loh said in a written statement. “These guidelines are strict, but they are what is needed to keep people at Peel working and learning and able to access food, medical care and the basics of everyday life.”
Loh said the region’s indicators are going in the wrong direction and swift action is needed.
“Peel residents must limit their contacts to only their family members and essential supports. Those who live alone can join a designated family, “the public health unit said.
Residents should not invite members of other families into their homes or backyards unless there is an emergency.
The region is banning wedding receptions “and associated gatherings” starting November 13 and which will last until at least January 7, 2021.
“Social gatherings celebrating holidays and life events in commercial establishments” will be banned on the same day, while religious services and rituals will be urged to go online if possible.
In-person religious events, including weddings and funerals, must reduce indoor capacity to 30%, with a maximum of 50 people per facility.
Meeting and event spaces, such as banquet rooms, must also close.
And workplaces must ban all non-essential visitors and make work-from-home options available as much as possible.

The orange level of the new provincial system limits bars and restaurants to 50 people indoors, with no more than four sitting together.
Peel health officials had demanded that the region remain under a modified Phase 2 – the restriction classification system previously used by the government – which includes stricter rules such as banning indoor dining in restaurants and bars.
But the province rejected the request, classifying it as a red zone instead.
