Furthermore, as part of the “restructuring plan, which we will learn about shortly, there will be a change in the composition of TAP’s fleet,” he said.
The minister speculated that by the end of this year the airline “will need almost all of the 1.2 billion euros” of the aid authorized by the European Commission, explaining that the Brussels authorization for the injection into the company had to guarantee the treasury until the end of the year. “During this period, TAP must develop a restructuring plan that will ensure the European Commission will be viable for the next 10 years. As regards the channeling of part of the aid received to TAP in Brazil, Pedro Nuno Santos explained that “the maintenance services were paid by TAP for an amount of 700 thousand euros”, guaranteeing that the loan tranches “only serve to pay expenses billed to TAP and 20 million to Portugal “.
Pedro Nuno Santos also guaranteed that “the promotion of territorial cohesion is a concern of the restructuring plan”. He speculated that TAP “costs a lot of money”, but assured that the company “is not a new bank because the new bank is not public and we are not there to guarantee the set of things we guarantee to TAP.”
The official also assured that in the restructuring plan, which should be delivered in the middle of the month, “we will know the forecast of the ‘break even’ and the year in which TAP will begin to return the money to the state”.
