The province is reporting two new cases of COVID-19 in the eastern health region.
The first case is a woman in her 60s linked to the Grand Bank cluster, she is not a tenant of the Blue Crest Cottages in the community. The woman is a close contact of a previously known case, a member of the same family. The woman isolates herself and the search for contacts is underway.
The second new confirmed case is a man in his fifties. The case is related to the trip, the man is a resident of the province who returned home from the United States. The man is isolating himself and the search for contacts is in progress.
The Department of Health is also providing an update on the three cases announced yesterday as the origin of those cases was unknown.
Those cases are all travel related. One case is a person who came to the province from Europe, the second is a person who traveled to the province from Asia. Both cases are found in the eastern health region and are unrelated.
Yesterday’s third case is a close contact from a traveler back from work in British Columbia. This case is found in the Western Health Region but is unrelated to the recent Deer Lake cluster.
The province now has 32 active cases.
Travel notice issued
With great caution, the Department of Health and Community Services asks passengers who traveled on Air Canada flight 7480 from Montreal to St. John’s on November 25 to call 811 to arrange for testing.
The department is also advising rotation workers on three COVID-19 outbreaks in Alberta. The outbreaks are in the Cenovus Energy Foster Creek oil sands project, the Cenovus Energy Christina Lake oil sands project, and the Syncrude Canada Aurora mining site.
Rotating workers working with these projects who have returned to the province in the past 14 days must isolate themselves and physically distance themselves from family members and call 811 for COVID-19 testing. They must complete 14 days of complete isolation, regardless of a negative test result.
